Live Nation and leading live music and event promoter Cuffe & Taylor revealed the headliners for the inaugural Plymouth Summer Sessions music festival as: Tom Jones (with special guest Gabrielle), Bryan Adams (with support from Cassyette), Madness (with special guest The Lightning Seeds) and Sting (with special guest Blondie), the shows will take place between 13-16 June 2024 at The Plymouth Hoe. Founded back in 2013 by DF Concerts, Summer Sessions has become a much-loved and highly anticipated live music series in Scotland with events taking place in cities including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Renowned for regularly showcasing a diverse roster of world-leading talent, previous headliners include Eminem, Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine and David Guetta.
The first-ever Plymouth Summer Sessions will kick off on Thursday 13 June 2024, headlined by none other than Tom Jones. The Welsh singing legend has been captivating audiences worldwide with his powerful voice and charisma for over six decades. Penning timeless classics including “It’s Not Unusual”, “She’s A Lady” and “Sexbomb”, selling more than 100 million records and continuing as an esteemed and influential figure in the music industry. Sir Tom’s career has been filled with numerous honours and accolades, including a deeply cherished knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, multiple BRIT Awards, a Silver Clef Award, the Music Industry Trusts Award and a Hitmaker Award. He has cemented his place in music history as one of the most successful artists of all time, traversing musical eras and genres, and appealing to all genders and ages. Also set to grace the stage on Saturday is Gabrielle, who emerged in the early ’90s with her soulful voice and decade-defining hits including ‘Out Of Reach’. With 30 years of her multi-platinum selling single ‘Dreams’, Gabrielle has surpassed over 50,000 ticket sales for her tour.
Friday 14 June will see the iconic, Bryan Adams set Plymouth alight with his internationally acclaimed anthemic rock hits like “Summer of ’69” and “Everything I Do (I Do It for You)”. Adams is a mainstay in the rock scene, known for his raspy voice and heartfelt lyrics. His storied career has been recognized numerous times, boasting a GRAMMY, two Ivor Novello songwriting awards and 18 JUNOs (Canada’s Music Awards). Joining him will be special guest Cassyette, emerging as a dynamic force in the UK’s rock scene, she is known for her fierce blend of punk and heavy metal influences with a modern twist.
Plymouth will welcome Madness on Saturday 15 June. The quintessential British band, rooted in ska with a pop flair, has been a fixture in the UK music scene since the late 1970s. Known for humorous lyrical storytelling and blending ska rhythms with catchy melodies, they’ve carved a unique niche in the music world. Hits like “Our House” and “Baggy Trousers” are synonymous with their quirky and upbeat style and have cemented their status as one of the UK’s most beloved bands, with a legacy that continues to delight fans of all ages. Joined by The Lightning Seeds, known for their melodic and cheerful indie pop, gifting the world the iconic football anthem “Three Lions”.
One of the world’s most distinctive and celebrated solo artists, Sting will deliver songs from his prolific and diverse catalogue, showcasing an unrivalled career, to close out the debut year of Plymouth Summer Sessions on Sunday 16 June. Sting has sold 100 million albums from his combined work with The Police and as a solo artist, with hits like “Fields of Gold” and “Englishman in New York”. As well as countless accolades including GRAMMY Awards, BRIT Awards, Ivor Novello Awards, including their highest honour the Academy Fellowship, a Golden Globe, an Emmy and many more. Joining Sting will be special guest Blondie, the American rock band led by the imitable Debbie Harry. With their blend of punk, disco, and pop, Blondie has delivered timeless hits like “Heart of Glass” and “Call Me”, solidifying their status as pioneers in the new wave and punk scenes.
