Businesses across Torbay have filled apprenticeship vacancies as a result of the Torbay Apprenticeships Fair.
14 new apprenticeships have started in sectors including engineering and manufacturing, IT, business administration, health, public services and care, and arts, media and publishing.
In September, Torbay’s Apprenticeship Steering Group announced the return of the Torbay Apprenticeships Fair. The next fair takes place on Wednesday 5 February 2020.
Rebecca Davies, Senior Economic Development Officer at TDA and Chair of the Apprenticeships Steering Group, said: “The group are incredibly proud of the results we have achieved so far. By filling apprenticeship vacancies it shows the value of running the Apprenticeships Fair and we look forward to building on the success of last year’s campaign. Together, with partners, and through events like this we are sharing the value of apprenticeships and seeing more businesses in Torbay take on apprentices.”
The free Torbay Apprenticeships Fair will take place at the Riviera International Conference Centre between 9:30am and 1pm, providing a space for employers, training providers and anyone wanting to learn about opportunities through apprenticeships.
20 stands have already registered with over 250 apprenticeship vacancies across most sectors. Businesses include Devon & Cornwall Police, Midas Construction, South Devon University Technical College and Torbay Council. Training providers from across South Devon are also attending, all with apprenticeship vacancies on behalf of local employers. South Devon College, Exeter College and PGL Training will be at the event.
The Torbay Apprenticeship Fair is free to attend and is for anyone looking at starting an apprenticeship, developing skills or considering a career change. There is no need to book and doors open at 9:30am.
Apprenticeships are a real job with structured ‘on the job’ training, ‘earn whilst you learn’ and are for all ages from 16+ (no upper age limit). Apprenticeships give the option of developing real working experience, as the apprentice studies towards a qualification, boosting future career prospects.
For businesses, apprenticeships are an excellent way of re-invigorating your workforce and improving your bottom line. It can create enthusiastic employees, with the skills to have a lasting and positive impact on the company, increasing productivity and staff loyalty.
