MP for Torbay Kevin Foster will be joining in fundraising efforts at YMCA’s Sleep Easy, with dozens of volunteers sleeping outdoors for the night, all to raise money for Nightstop – a YMCA service supporting young vulnerable homeless people.

On being asked about his decision to take part in Friday’s fundraiser, Kevin said “This is a chance to not only raise funds to support the excellent work of the YMCA in supporting people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, but to also highlight the issue itself. I am pleased to be joining with the other volunteers doing this to show our determination to ensure no-one has to spend a night on the streets.”

Sleep Easy is in aid of Nightstop, which has helped keep 43 young people aged between 16 and 25 years, safe and warm.

Nightstop provides emergency, temporary accommodation for young people using volunteer hosts who provide a bed for the night until their needs can be properly assessed.

“YMCA South Devon has been running Nightstop for almost 15 months and in that time, we have provided over 370 safe bed nights for 43 vulnerable young people, we rely solely on external funding and our own fundraising to keep this project running, so events like this are so important to us.” Said YMCA South Devon CEO Maria Goodwin.

“We are delighted that Kevin feels strongly enough about youth homelessness, that he wants to support us by taking part himself.”
