Thirty one local organisations are to receive funding this year from Torbay’s Mayor, Gordon Oliver, who for the 8th year running is giving part of his salary to charitable groups. They will each receive a grant of up to £1000 to help them drive forward projects in their community.
So far 388 local groups, organisations and individuals have been given a share of £224,788.00 from the Torbay Mayor’s Fund, which was set up after Gordon Oliver pledged part of his annual salary in each year of office.
The fund is administered by a cross-party panel of councillors – Nicole Amil, Jackie Stockman and Christine Carter.
Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “I am really pleased that so many worthwhile groups applied for the Torbay Mayor’s Fund. I am proud of the work they do for their local communities and this is my way of saying thank you to them. I’d also like to thank everyone who helped administer the fund this year for their hard work and support.”
“In previous years I have held a presentation ceremony for the successful applicants. However, this year I have decided to use all of this year’s fund to support local good causes rather than paying for a venue.”
