Torbay prepares for the general election

Preparations are well underway in Torbay for the general election. Polling stations across the Bay will be opening from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 12 December.

If you want to vote you need to register by midnight on Tuesday 26 November.

It’s quick and easy to do online at www.gov.uk/registertovote. If you’ve already registered you don’t need to do it again unless you’ve changed your address, name or nationality.

If you are unable to get to the polling station on 12 December you can apply for a postal vote. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

Alternatively, you can appoint a proxy, but you must apply by 5pm on Wednesday 4 December. Proxy voters will be required to attend your polling station to vote on your behalf, be a registered elector and eligible to vote in the election.

For more information on how to apply for either a postal or proxy vote visit www.torbay.gov.uk/register-to-vote. An guide to voting in the general election can also be found at www.torbay.gov.uk/ge2019

Please be aware that electors in a number of wards/polling districts fall under the Totnes Constituency for a general election and therefore vote for a different MP to voters in the Torbay Constituency. These include some or all of the polling districts in:

Furzeham with Summercombe
St Peters with St Marys
Churston with Galmpton
Clifton with Maidenway
Collaton St Mary
Goodrington with Roselands
Kings Ash

South Hams District Council runs the election for the Totnes Constituency, but Torbay is still responsible for the registration of electors and processing postal vote application forms.
The full list of people you can vote in both the Torbay and Totnes Constituencies can be found under the Statements of Persons Nominated at www.torbay.gov.uk/ge2019.
