Highway Widening Scheme – Newton Road, Torquay

From 9 November there will be road works taking place on Teignmouth Road, between Petitor Road and the borough boundary at Labrador Bay.

The cats eyes and centre white lines are being renewed to improve safety along this stretch of road.

Due to the nature of the works Teignmouth Road will be closed to through traffic, although vehicle access to properties will be maintained.

The works will be carried out over 5 nights, commencing 9 November at 7pm. During this time there will be no through route to or from Teignmouth via the A379. A diversion around Newton Abbot will be in place. Depending on the weather conditions at the time, it is hoped that these works can be completed over a shorter time-frame.

Simultaneously, lane closures will be in operation on Kennels Road, Brixham between Dartmouth Road and Hillhead as similar work is carried out there. Kennels Road will remain open for the duration of the works.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “As part of our continuous commitment to structural maintenance and road safety across the Bay, these works are necessary and need to be carried out. The work will be completed as quickly as possible to minimise any disruption.”
