Online fund set up to pay for Torquay’s Christmas lights

Update: Christmas lights campaigner comment causes outrage https://wearesouthdevon.com/christmas-lights-campaigner-manchester/

We may not have started to think about Christmas yet but there is concern about Torquay’s Christmas lights and an online fund has been set up to pay for them.

The fundraiser, started by Susie Colley states:

Torbay Council do not fund Christmas lights, but they want them all the same.

We are a voluntary group made up of local traders who want to ensure that Torquay has its Christmas Lights each year.

We got together over a year ago and we are still trying to raise funds to bring a festive atmosphere to Torquay at Christmas.

The Torquay Chamber of Commerce  assisted us by helping with the administrative processes and providing a bank account in which to link this crowd funding campaign.

There is no sponsor for this year’s lights and it is unlikely we shall find one.

With your help we can raise enough money to ensure that Torquay doesn’t stay in the dark this Christmas.

The target amount is set at £23000 but as yet, there have been no donations. For more information go to: https://www.gofundme.com/torquay-christmas-lights-fund

Last year, local radio station breeze stepped in and saved Torquay from darkness  An online fund in 2016 to pay for the lights raised just a few hundred pounds out of the £25,000 target. Businesses across Torquay stepped forward with offers to help fund the lights with Breeze then offering to help fund the lights.

Will Torquay’s Christmas be saved in 2017? Let’s hope so!
