Torbay Council have given advanced warning of seafront road closures due to the Riviera Classic.
Roads along Torquay seafront will be closed on Sunday 25 March so the Riviera Classic, which is one of the country’s premier youth cycle races, can take place.
Mid Devon Cycling Club are hosting the race in Torquay, which is a proving ground for future Olympic talent. The Riviera Classic is supported by British Cycling and attracts talented riders aged Under 14 and Under 16 from across the country.
The route that comprises of Torbay Road in between the junctions of Seaway Lane and Belgrave Road, Rathmore Road, Falkland Road and the Kings Drive will be closed to traffic from 7am to 5pm.
Pedestrian access will remain open, however traffic will be diverted as follows:
From the A3022 approach – The Avenue.
Traffic travelling towards Livermead and Paignton will be directed from the junction of the A3022 and Falkland Road via Walnut Road, Solsbro Road, Hennapyn Road, Old Mill Road, Cockington Lane and onto Torbay Road at Livermead.
Traffic approaching from Paignton on Torbay road will be directed along the winter seafront diversion route starting at Wheatridge Lane towards Cockington Lane, Old Mill Road, Walnut Road, and through to the A3022 Walnut Road junction.
Traffic for the town centre will be directed up Falkland Road and Belgrave Road where signs will indicate further diversions.
From the Torbay Road/Belgrave Road approach travelling toward Paignton.
Traffic will be diverted up Belgrave road and follow existing signs to Paignton and pick up the diversion as described above. Access to the town centre will be unaffected.
Access to the train station
Traffic approaching from Paignton will access the train station via Seaway Lane and Hennapyn Road while traffic from the A3022/Torquay must use Walnut Road, Solsbro Road and Hennapyn Road.
