The fire service were called to reports of a fire at a shop in Torquay in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 7th August.
The shop, formerly a barbers but currently empty was destroyed by the major blaze.
Several calls were received by the fire service reporting the fire on Abbey Road just after 1.30am.
Two flats above the shop were also damaged in the fire.
Fire crews from Paignton and Torquay attended the incident.
Devon and Somerset Fire and rescue service said on their website: “On arrival crews confirmed this was a building of 3 floors, a shop on the ground floor and accommodation on 1st and 2nd floor. The shop was well alight. Crews extinguished the fire using 4 Breathing Apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and 1 safety jet. The shop was severely damaged by fire and there was smoke damage to the 1st and 2nd floors,”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
