The exhibition is a comprehensive history of British tattooing, featuring cutting edge designers, leading academics and major private collectors. This is the largest gathering of real objects and original tattoo artwork ever assembled in the UK featuring over 400 original artworks, photographs and historic artefacts.

The exhibition challenges long-standing myths and pre-conceptions about tattooing when it comes to class, gender and age, whilst at the same time celebrating the astonishingly rich artistic heritage of tattooing in the UK.

If you have an interest and enthusiasm for supporting the exhibition and potentially other activities at the museum please apply! The exhibition will run from 3 March until 3 June, seven days a week, from 10am and 5pm. There will be split shifts available each day for volunteers from 10am to 2pm and 1pm to 5pm.

The exhibition host role includes:

  • Collecting ‘Torbay Tattoo Tales’ from our visitors
  • Opening and closing procedures around the exhibits
  • Developing knowledge around the exhibition content
  • Engaging with visitors regarding the exhibition
  • Helping the retail and hospitality teams
  • Guiding and directing visitors around the exhibition layout and content
  • Managing and monitoring exhibition spaces for health & safety and security

An information event for all volunteers will be held on Tuesday 20 February.

In return for your time during the exhibition, you will get a Torre Abbey Museum annual pass, endless tea and coffee and tickets to a great opening event.

If you would like to join in please call Torre Abbey 01803 293593 or email AbbeyLearning@torbay.gov.uk to register your interest.
