Leslie’s wife Marianne Douthwaite said: “Les was an exceptional father, a devoted husband, a loving son and a loyal brother

“He was so special to all his family and friends. He was a larger than life gentleman. Les inspired and enthused all he knew with his irrepressible zest for life.

“He will be desperately missed by all who loved and knew him.”

Four men were arrested in connection with the incident, aged 43, 54 and two both aged 35. One of the 35-year-old men has been released with no further action, while the three other men – all arrested on suspicion of affray – have been given police bail pending further enquiries [more here]

The matter was given a mandatory referral to the IPCC and is subject to an independent investigation by them. This will run alongside the criminal enquiry into the incident.
