Tributes paid to popular Big Issue seller

Tributes have been paid to a popular big issue seller after his death was announced earlier today.

Tony Lucus, 52 was well known in Paignton, often seen outside Tesco Metro.

The big Issue said on their website yesterday: “We are saddened to announce that popular vendor Tony Lucas has died.

“The 52-year-old lost his life on Monday night following a short period of illness.

“Tony had become a much-loved part of the community in Paignton, Devon, where he sold the magazine for 10 years,”
The Big Issue is one of the UK’s leading social businesses and exists to offer homeless people, or individuals at risk of homelessness, the opportunity to earn a legitimate income, thereby helping them to reintegrate into mainstream society. It is the world’s most widely circulated street newspaper.

Many people paid tribute to Tony after his death was announced on Facebook page Spotted Torquay:

Lou Walters wrote: “RIP Tony hardworking, polite and lovely man. Greatly missed by a lot of people xx”

Andy Westward said:”My partner is a manager of a store in Victoria Street,she told my on many occasions how helpful and polite he was,very sad news,RIP Tony”

Wendy Holloway added: “Oh what such sad news! He was always so polite and friendly, always took time to say hello, he will be missed! R.I.P. Tony ?”

Michael Moore said “Thank you all for your kind comments about Antony. His mum, who used to live in Paignton and now lives in Hampshire, and his brothers would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and thoughts. We will post details of his funeral arrangements should any of you wish to attend.”
