Two people airlifted to hospital following serious collision

Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision between Torquay and Newton Abbot today, Sunday 16 August.

The collision, involving two vehicles happened around 2.15pm.

Four people were injured in the collision with two people airlifted hospital, one is reported to be a teenager.

@DC_Police St Marychurch Road between #Newtonabbot and #Torquay is currently closed after a serious injury road traffic collision. Police Fire and Ambulance are on scene. Please use alternative routes and allow additional travel time.

Police, ambulance, fire crews and air ambulance attended the scene, closing the road in both directions.

Two people were trapped within a car, with firefighters removing the roof and doors to release the casualties.

The road remains closed, with officers at the scene, investigating.
