An email to parents and carers of Churston Ferrers Grammar School Students said:

“Dear All

“Following a call late last night from Public Health England with regard to a potential case of COVID-19 at Churston, we are letting you know that the school will be closed for all staff and students today as a precautionary measure.

“You will, of course, have many questions and we will be posting updates during the day via the website and our In-touch communication system.

“We understand that this will be hugely inconvenient but once again, I must urge you not to start your travel plans this morning.

“We will back in touch shortly.”

A message on the schools website said: “Churston Ferrers Grammar School will be closed today Monday 2nd March.

Galmpton Primary School also decided to close, texting parents and carers: “Dear parent/carer, following Churstons decision to close today, we are also closing for today. Huge apologies for such short notice. More info will follow.”

Over 11,000 people in the UK have been tested with 36 people confirmed as having the virus.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
