Vehicles severely damaged by fire in Newton Abbot

Fire crews were called to a vehicle fire in Newton Abbot last night, 7th January.

One fire engine from Newton Abbot was mobilised to the incident in Kings Street at around 8:51pm.

Crews found a vehicle well alight and requested a further appliance to attend which also came from Newton Abbot.

Two vehicles were severely damaged in the fire. A nearby building and storage container were also damaged.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said on their website:  “The fire was involving two vehicles and had spread to an adjacent storage building. Crews got to work using two breathing apparatus sets, one hose reel jet and one main jet.  

“The building was heavily smoke logged and breathing apparatus was increased to four and hose reel jets increased to two. The vehicles, one commercial small vehicle and a private car were severely damaged. External fittings of the building were slightly damaged by fire, 5% of the storage container damaged by fire and 30% smoke damage,”
