Volunteers who have green fingers or merely a love of working outdoors are invited to help clear up a community garden.
The ‘Big Green Tidy Up’, is at the community garden on Cricket Field Road in Hele, next to Torquay Academy, on Saturday 21 September 2019, from 10am to 4pm.
Organiser Helen Jones, Torbay and Southern Devon NHS Foundation Trust Health and Social Care Co-Ordinator, said: “We are looking for volunteers to just turn up and help clean up the garden and support this community resource. Any help would be appreciated. We will be there between from 10-4, so even if it’s an hour, we welcome the support.”
Volunteers will be asked to help tidy up the garden, build activity centres and a green house and move and build a polythene tunnel. Refreshments, including a light lunch, will be provided.
Community builder Dan Best, who works for Torbay Ageing Well Project, said: “The Big Green Tidy up is designed to make the garden more friendly and accessible to all ages and capabilities.”
Dan coordinates the community garden project through the Lower Hele and Barton community partnership for residents. He added: “The garden was an allotment only, but has potential as a community space – a sort of open-air community centre or village hall – where people can gather and make use of. It certainly has more possibilities than just an allotment.”
Further information on the Big Green Tidy up is available from Dan on 07905 765 263.
