A woman and child have died after being hit by a car in Plymouth this morning, Sunday 24 March.
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving two pedestrians and a car in the St Budeaux area at around 9.45am.
Police, fire crews, ambulance crews and the air ambulance attended the scene on Victoria Road.
The pedestrians, a young girl and a woman, sustained serious injuries. They were taken to hospital by ambulance but both sadly died. Police say their next of kin have been informed.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police stated: “A 74-year-old woman from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She remains in police custody at this time.”
The road has been closed throughout the day whilst investigations take place.
Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact them on 101 quoting log 240 of 24 March.
