BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Marc Allum will talk about his interest in Samurai culture, and its influences in Film and Media at Torquay Museum on Friday 29th July at 7.30pm as part of a season of events to celebrate the Museum’s blockbuster summer exhibition Samurai: Warriors of Japan.
Marc will illustrate his talk with examples from his own collection, and visitors will have exclusive access to the Museum’s Samurai exhibition for the evening, together with wine and nibbles.
Marc’s talk comes against the backdrop of a major summer Samurai exhibition at the Museum, which brings graphically to life the story of the Samurai and their eventual fall from power. There is a range of armour, weapons and costumes from the blockbuster movie The Last Samurai (2003), starring Tom Cruise, and Stormtrooper armour and a Jedi costume from the Star Wars movies which were heavily influenced by Samurai culture.
The exhibition also showcases real Samurai weapons and costumes, together with many rarely seen Samurai items from Torquay Museum’s Japanese collection, and even armour and clothes that visitors can try on.
