The road is closed between Harcombe Cross and the Chudleigh/Kingsteignton turn off.

Early reports suggest a lorry driver has died and a van driver is critically ill.

The first crashed happened at 6am when a lorry came off the Plymouth bound carriageway and careered into the hard shoulder of the opposite carriageway.

The second accident happened around 7am and involved a van. The driver was airlifted to Derriford hospital.

Police remain at the scene and both carriageways remain shut whilst investigation takes place.
