Activities and events available for unpaid carers in Torbay during Carers Week

People who care for a family member or friend in Torbay are invited to take part in a range of opportunities and events to mark Carers Week 2022.

This year, Torbay Carers Services have once again organised a full line-up of events for local unpaid carers, who are family members or friends who support someone with health or care needs.

Carers Week, which takes place this year from 06 to 12 June 2022, is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the country. The theme for this year is ‘make caring visible, valued and supported’.

Sessions available for unpaid carers include live cookery sessions, digital masterclasses, day trips, online tours, social events and much more.

Katy Heard, Carers Lead at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We hope that this year’s Carers Week events provide both an opportunity for carers to have a break from their caring role with fun activities, and attend useful sessions on developing skills and information about available support.

“It has been fantastic to be able to organise more in-person events than the previous two years, but we recognise the importance of our online offering and the flexibility this provides for the busy lives of local carers.

“We know that there are still many people in our local area who have caring responsibilities for family and friends, but don’t identify themselves as a carer. If you think this applies to you, please come forward to find out more about the events taking place and the huge range of support and discounts that are available.”

Carers will need to register their interest for the events by Friday 06 May. The full programme of activities and can be found in the Spring edition of Torbay Carers Services’ magazine, Signposts for Carers. The magazine, as well as a downloadable application form, can be found on www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/services/carers-service/signposts-magazine. Alternatively, please call 01803 666620 for a form.
