Admission to Primary Schools in Torbay September 2021

Do you have a child that is due to start primary school in September 2021? Torbay Council is reminding local parents and carers that the application window for you to apply for your chosen primary school will be open from 1 November 2020 until 15 January 2021.

If your child was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 you will need to apply for a primary school place. The online system will be live from 1 November for applications to be made.

Before applying for a place you are advised to read the TIPS 8 booklet, which contains details of the application process, and the primary supplement, including a summary of the admission criteria for each primary school.

The TIPS 8 booklet, the primary supplement and other useful information can be found on the Torbay Council website or it can be requested by calling Torbay Children’s Services on 01803 208908.

Councillor Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services for Torbay Council, said: “Applying online is the quickest and easiest way to fill out and submit your applications. I recommend parents read through the TIPS booklet, where they can learn more about Torbay’s transparent and fair application system for primary schools admissions.”

You can apply online from 1 November 2020. All the information you need can be found on the primary school admissions page of Torbay Council’s website.

What you need to know:

– Applications must be made on the common application form, even if one or more preferences are for a school in Devon. Any previous application that parents may have made directly to a school will not be considered.

– Even if there is an older child at the preferred school or the child attends a nursery at the school, parents must still apply for a school place using the common application form.

– Applications received after Wednesday 15 January 2021 will not be considered in the initial round of allocations.

– Parents will receive notification of the place allocated to their child on Monday 16 April 2021 if they apply online and have requested to be notified by email, we are encouraging all parents/carers to apply using the online system. This is the preferred way of applying as due to Coronavirus restrictions we are currently unable to process paper forms posted to our offices.
