Police say that a Triumph Rocket and the pillion have fallen from the motorcycle, for reasons unknown at this time.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old man from Exeter, was fatally injured and the pillion, a 60-year-old woman, was airlifted to Derriford hospital with serious injuries where she remains.

A further two motorcycles, a Yamaha and Harley Davidson, who were travelling behind, have subsequently become involved in the collision. The female pillion of the Yamaha sustained serious injuries and was also treated at hospital.

The motorcyclists were taking part in Devon Air Ambulance annual ride out.

Police, ambulance crews and two air ambulances attended the scene.

The road was closed for six hours whilst investigations took place.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to contact police on 101@dc.police.uk or call 101 quoting Log 405 15/7/18.
