Torre Abbey Sands beach in Torquay has been evacuated following a major blaze at the harbour.
People have been asked to leave the area by police.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Due to levels of smoke and fumes we are asking residents in the area to keep their doors and windows shut at this time. Members of the public are also urged to avoid the area and beaches are being cleared by officers for public safety.”
Emergency services were called to reports of a yacht fire just before midday.
The A379 Torbay Road is closed in both directions. Traffic in and around the area is delayed.
