The community responded to an appeal by police following a fire they attended today, Friday 28th December.
Torquay police posted an appeal for toys, clothes and baby essentials such as bottles after the fire left many items in the property unusable.
Torquay police attended the coach station in Torquay between 2.30pm and 3.30pm to collect donations from the community.
There were so many donations, a member of the public offered the use of his van.
Police say the family now have everything they need.
The police officer who initially posted the appeal said this afternoon: “As most of you know we went to a house fire today where a mother and her two young children lived. The fire caused a lot of damage making many things unusable such as baby essentials and had melted the sterilizer. We looked to the power of social media to help this family out and WOW. I am overwhelmed by the response!! My phone did not stop so I am sorry if I didn’t get to speak to you all. A member of the public could see my little ford fiesta getting full and offered his van which was most welcomed. Morrison’s donated new bottles and other baby bits. You the community came together to help this family in their time of need. I am extremely honored to work in such an amazing, thoughtful community. Thank you for being a part of this.”
