Local businessman Ed Akay and his Wife Helen, during June have been undertaking a fitness challenge in aid of The Torquay United Community Sports Trust (the Charitable Wing of Torquay United).

Ed Akay, Director Gold Lake Developments said: “It is a pleasure to beat the lockdown blues and raise money for such a great cause! I am tired nearly all the time but it is more than worth it. TUCST do a fantastic job in promoting grassroots football in the Torbay area.”

Ed, whose company Gold Lake Developments run a monthly networking event called the Torbay Property Meet (which is now online due to COVID-19) has embarked on a gruelling fitness regime which consists of the following weekly:

1 14 mile hike.
1 10 mile hike.
3+ 6 mile plus runs.
6 – 3 minute punch bag rounds (5 times a week).
4 x 1 hour plus weights sessions.
Daily 3 minute plank.

Jamie McInnes, Community Manager, TUCST said: “Ed came on board with Torquay United Community Sports Trust at the beginning of 2020, sponsoring our registered charity with regular donations from the Gold Lake Developments monthly property meets. These donations have been gratefully received by all at TUCST, particularly during these tough times where our income has decreased markedly.
On top of this initial generosity, Ed is now completing a fitness challenge throughout June to raise further funds to support TUCST. I am personally quite overwhelmed by Ed’s kindness and superb efforts in supporting TUCST. We reach out to all sectors of our community in our engagement and his fundraising efforts will be utilised in supporting this work in the future, as things slowly move back towards normality. Please support Ed with any donations you are able to make, as he really deserves it.”

Mel Richards, Director Gold Lake Developments added: “As someone who has lived in Devon all my life, I fully appreciate the great work TUCST do for the local community. It is a pleasure to help support them in any way we can.”
