Indoor Skatepark refurbishment gets funding

Young people are celebrating in Newton Abbot following the announcement that The Lodge Skatepark will be renovated with funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Attracting approximately 400 children and young people per week to our site at Wharf Road Industrial Estate, there has never been a better time for Scootering and Skateboarding enthusiasts to get involved.

A range of Scootering and Skateboard coaching sessions for all abilities takes place each week with qualified volunteers and staff.

The renovation will include a new layout of the skate area, designed by our young users, as well as improvements the customer toilets.

The local scene is stronger than ever, with many local skateboarders and scooterers playing a vital role in running the sessions and designing the new skatepark layout to suit all disciplines and levels of ability.

Gareth Williams, Operations Manager at Viridor Credits, said “this fantastic facility will be receiving an important make-over to help skaters of all ages and abilities have fun and socialise. Viridor Credits is proud to support this community-led project”

The Lodge Skatepark charity was set up in 2014 and has grown into a thriving venue for young people in the centre of Newton Abbot. There are very few weekends without a fully booked timetable of Scooter/Skateboard Birthday party bookings and School Holidays are extraordinary, giving our local young people a place to go and socialise, learn, develop and volunteer. We have brought people together and created a place that is friendly, supportive and extraordinary.

The team at the Lodge indoor skatepark would like to thank Viridor Credits and all our supporters in the local community for supporting their bid to develop the facility which is so valuable to local people. Many months of hard work and dedication went into the development of the funding application and we cannot wait to use the new skatepark in the new year. We couldn’t do it without you.

When the new skatepark has been officially opened at the end of January, we will welcome new scooter riders and skateboarders from the age of 5 and over to any of our coaching sessions and our under 13s night every Friday night.

Details about our sessions and timetable can be found on our website www.thelodgeskatepark.co.uk and our facebook page is full of updates and information.

We are always looking for new volunteers to step forward and help us with our weekly sessions if you are interested in finding out more please contact us via our email address the.lodge.skatepark@gmail.com or pop in and talk to the team
