Torbay gears up for the Easter break.

The geo park was closed whilst work was carried out

Work is continuing on the recovery programme for Storm Emma along with any damage from the weekend’s snowfall.

The council’s priority is to still repair as much as they can by the Easter Bank Holiday.

The weather at the weekend highlighted an issue regarding damage to the seawall at Livermead. Following an inspection the access steps have been temporarily closed and contractors are currently on site making repairs.

In addition to the damage seawall, Torbay Council are also dealing with a large hole in the path which appeared yesterday, 21st March. A cordon has been set up whilst emergency repairs are made. More here.

Recovery work from Storm Emma continues and the council, TOR2 and the local Community Partnership have been working hard to get the Geoplay Park at Paignton Green ready and in a position to be safe to open to residents. The last bits of work will be completed this week and it is anticipated that the park can reopen by the end of the week. Some fencing will need to stay in place though around the middle section to ensure that turf can embed.

With regard to the temporary toilet block at Goodrington South beach, there are ongoing conversations about the best way forward with this. Something will be in place by the high season but both the toilet blocks on Goodrington South and North are now open for residents to use. This is earlier than planned.

The weather at the weekend made it too hazardous for TOR2 to carry out their waste and recycling rounds safely on Monday and Tuesday. Recycling collections will continue on the usual day for the rest of this week.

Any recycling and food waste missed on Monday and Tuesday should be put out again on the usual collection day, during the week commencing 26 March. Where residual waste collections were missed on Monday or Tuesday, residents should leave their wheeled bins out and TOR2 will return to collect them. For collections due from Wednesday 21 March onwards, residents should put their bins out on their usual collection day and they will be collected as soon as possible.

Due to the recovery work from Storm Emma the beach hut team are slightly behind but are continuing to get all the huts out of winter storage and into place as quickly as they can. This may slip in some places but it is hoped that all huts will be out by the middle of April. Residents will still be able to collect their keys from their usual locations from 1 April 2018.

Torbay Council have also reminded the community not to carry out repair work in public areas but if you see damage email communityengagement.rcg@torbay.gov.uk so the information can be collated centrally and used as part of the council’s recovery plan.
