Do you have a child that is due to start primary school in September 2020? Torbay Council is reminding local parents and carers that the deadline to apply is Wednesday 15 January 2020.

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 you need to apply for a primary school place online or complete a paper form.

Before applying for a place you are advised to read the TIPS 8 booklet, which contains details of the application process, and the primary supplement, which contains a summary of the admission criteria for each primary school. Some primary schools hold open days for you to visit and others welcome personal visits – to arrange a visit, you would need to contact the relevant school directly.

The TIPS 8 booklet, supplement and application form can be found on the Torbay Council website or paper copies can be collected from Torbay Council’s Connections Office, local primary schools, or it can be requested by calling Torbay Children’s Services on 01803 208908.

Councillor Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services for Torbay Council, said: “”The application deadline is on Wednesday 15 January which is not a long time away. I strongly encourage parents with children due to start primary school in September to get their applications in as soon as they can.

“Applying online is the quickest and easiest way to fill out and submit your applications. I recommend parents read through the TIPS booklet, where they can learn more about Torbay’s transparent and fair application system for primary schools admissions.”

You can apply online and find all the information you need on the primary school admissions page of Torbay Council’s website here.
