Police have advised the public to be vigilant after reports of a man asking for money in the Teignmouth area.

The man has approached people in the street, knocked on doors and stopped cars.

He asks for money to get home or similar.

There were previously similar reports in the Torquay and Paignton area.

Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police said on social media:
“We have had numerous reports of a young male who is asking for money in Teignmouth.

“This male will knock on your door, stop your car or walk up to you in the street.

“He has been seen in and around Teignmouth train station, New Road, Paradise Road, Woodway Road and Higher and Lower Brimley Road .

“He may say something along the lines of ‘me and my girlfriend have just broken up and I need some money to get home’. We are making efforts to identify the male.

“Please be vigilant and do not pass him any money,”
