A police spokesman said: “This morning police received a 999 call to attend the River Dart, Dartmouth, to a report of a person in the water.

“HM Coastguard were alerted and Dartmouth RNLI lifeboat was dispatched to the scene where the body of a man was recovered from the water.

“No formal identification has taken place, but the family of Jason Wickenden who went missing before Christmas have been informed of the incident.”

Dartmouth Coastguard said: “We were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard following a report of a person in the water on the River Dart. Dart RNLI Lifeboat was launched and proceeded to the scene where the body of a man was recovered from the water.
