Torre Abbey Historic House and Gardens is going medieval mad this summer with family fun events during August.
Dangerous Drawing…Torre Abbey’s painted equivalent of the Bayeux Tapestry
Monday 17 August, 1.30pm to 4pm
Pop along to the Abbey and help draw a bloody battle scene. Based on the same theme as the Bayeux Tapestry, you will be recreating Torre Abbey’s gory founding story. This includes Richard the Lionheart featured with local hero, Lord of the Manor of Torre, William Brewer – who rescues his imprisoned King!
Make like a Monk….create your own illuminated initials
Tuesday 25 August, 1.30pm to 4pm
Step back in time and discover the beautiful illuminated books once made in Torre Abbey. Follow in the footsteps or the monks and create your own lavishly illuminated letter.
Kids Rule! Like the Magna Carta, kids make the rule book…
Friday 28 August, 1.30pm to 4pm
Celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta which recorded the very first set of rules which gave people freedom from the king’s tyranny! Children can create and illustrate their own set of ten rules, rules which kids would have wanted in the Magna Carta.
Workshop and entrance to the Abbey is included in entry price (pay on arrival):
Children (5-15 years) £3.50
Adults (16 upwards) £5
