NRS to provide technology enabled care in Torbay

Technology enabled care services (TECS) in Torbay will be run by NRS healthcare from today, 1st October.

Technology enabled care refers to a range of services that use technology to support patients with long-term conditions to stay independent, well and receive a level of care and support that is right for them in a non-invasive way. It can also offer reassurance to family members about their loved ones. An example of technology enabled care would be a daughter receiving a message about their mother if they have missed medication or a pendant alarm.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, who has run the service to date, ran a procurement process earlier this year to seek out a company who could ensure modernisation, innovation and value for money when it comes to providing technology enabled care.

NRS healthcare who have an excellent track record and breadth of clinical expertise in this area will run all aspects of technology enabled care including receiving a request to identify a solution, installing and training and running the monitoring and alarm centre.

NRS will also work with the Trust to deliver its TECS strategy over the coming years and look at completely transforming the way that technology supports health and wellbeing.

Ann Wagner, Director of Strategy and Improvement for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust said: “Technology can support our lives now in a way that we never thought possible. Our strategy for technology is forward thinking and puts technology enabled care at the forefront of what we do. Our model of integrated care is all about promoting and supporting independence, and is designed to empower individuals to take ownership of their own health and care needs and where people do need care in a hospital or community setting, helping them to get home quickly and back to independence as soon as possible.

“Our technology enabled care service is already supporting around 2000 people in Torbay to live healthy, fulfilled and independent lives but we want to enable more people to benefit from the range of technology that is available.

“NRS healthcare have the knowledge and expertise to enable the Trust to deliver on its aspirations and provide people locally with more choice and options to support their individual circumstances.”

Jerry Benson, Chief Executive Officer for NRS Healthcare said: “We are delighted to be expanding the work we already do with Torbay and in Technology Enabled Care. We look forward to working in partnership with the Trust to deliver a truly exciting and innovative TECS service to people across the Torbay area over the next few years.”

NRS healthcare will run TECS in Torbay from Monday 1 October. People who are currently in use a of technology-enabled care will not see any changes to the service they receive and the Trust has written directly to clients with more detail about the process and what it means for them.
