PAWsome times at Cockington Country Park Fun Dog Day

Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust is holding a Fun Dog Day for humans and their four-legged friends on Sunday 20th August.

Joining Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust for this second annual day of canine capers are dog rescue and rehoming charity Galgos Del Sol, who work with Spanish greyhounds that have been abandoned on the streets. The money raised from the fun dog show will help support the amazing work they do rehoming these special dogs with loving families in the UK.

The fun-packed day will kick off at 11am until 4pm and include a variety of activities and stalls.

Dog owners are encouraged to bring their pooch along and participate in the Fun Dog Show. There are a number of different show classes so there’s guaranteed to be a class suitable for every shape, size, age and breed. Seymour Vets have kindly sponsored doggie goody bags for winners and Sam Clark from Farlap Photography, one of the UK’s leading specialists in canine photography, has offered a free pet portrait for the first place winner in each group.  There will be a special ‘Canine of Cockington’ class sponsored by Greenbay Vets, for regular four-legged visitors to the park.

In the meantime, visitors of the human variety can enjoy browsing for bargains with a variety of pet stalls selling items for them and their pets.

Hannah Worthington, Cockington Green Heart Access Officer, said: “Cockington Country Park is a      very popular dog walking spot and we are really looking forward to celebrating all things canine with our visitors and their pets. After recent unfortunate events with a sheep attack at Cockington, we want to take this opportunity to promote the responsible ownership practised by the vast majority of dog walkers who visit the park.”

Due to the popularity of the day last year in addition to car parks in the village and at Cockington Court there will be further parking available in a field along Cockington Lane – continue past the village centre car park, the car park is signposted from there.

Entrance to the event is free, with £1 per dog for the dog show and a suggested donation of £2.50 per car for parking.
