Items stolen included three outboard engines worth several thousands of pounds were stolen along with VHF radios and other kit.

The club has an active cadet section and close links to youth organisations in the area, encouraging young people to take part in water-based activities.

Teign Corinthian Yacht Club treasurer Mike Commaner said: “The Coombe Cellars Dinghy Sailors will greatly miss the outboard engines and VHF radios which are an integral part of keeping our children safe on the water.

“At this time of the year we are gearing up for training of schoolchildren and scouts and, although we will be continuing as normal, it is putting a great strain on our resources.

“If anybody knows the whereabouts of our engines and radios, please do let the police know.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information, is urged to contact police on 101, quoting crime number CR/026612/19, or via email at 101@dc.police.uk.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers via 0800 555111 or at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
