Fran Bennett activities coordinator at Buckland Community Centre said “The youth club is a really important part of the lives of the younger children in Buckland. This is often the highlight of the week and there is great excitement not only by the children but also within the community to be able to provide a much needed resource for young people once again”

Young volunteers boosted by new funding

Salcombe ‘Live’ Music and Comedy Festival announced

A free disco was held just before Christmas for all children of the area aged between 6 and 11. With the promises of free pizza, snacks and drinks, over 70 children attended along with a fantastic team of volunteers that came forward to make the night a great success. The new group is very much going to be youth led so during the disco children came up with a wide range of activities including Camping, Arts and Crafts, Go Karting and Street Dance to name just a few. Activities that new play leader Steve Michaels and his team of volunteers have now been tasked with bringing the children’s ideas to life.

Steve said “Having a chance to re-launch the club in Buckland is going to be a great experience. So many great volunteers have already come forward with loads of fantastic ideas and experiences we can share with the children in the club we already have several great things lined up and at this moment just finalising trips out during the summer. I am sure with the team we have behind us and the support we are receiving from Buckland and the surrounding area we will be able to make many memories that children will remember well into the future.”

Steve goes on to say “We have decided to have two age groups for the youth club, the first running from 6-7pm for the 6-11 year olds and then following it 7-8.30pm for the 9-11 age group.” If you want to know more about joining the youth group as either a volunteer or perhaps if you just want to bring your child along please have a look at our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/BMYGroup You can call Buckland and Milber Community Centre on 01626 206690 or alternatively you can email bucklandyouthgroup@gmail.com .
