A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said on social media: “The M5 is closed between junction 24 southbound (Huntworth) and junction 25 north (Taunton) following a serious collision involving several vehicles which happened at about 8.30am today, Thursday 13 September.

“A multi-agency response is in place including fire, police and ambulance service, including the air ambulance and highways.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time to allow emergency services to work.

“Motorway and dual-carriageway closures are very complex and the duration of a closure varies depending on the incident and which emergency service or organisation has taken the lead at the scene,”

Updates as information becomes available.
