“Stay at home” Boris Johnson announces three-week lockdown

The Prime Minister has announced this evening that people must stay at home, putting the UK in lockdown.

People will only be allowed to go out for the following purposes:

– Shopping for necessities, as infrequently as possible.
– Any medical need, or to provide care.
– One form of exercise a day (alone or with members of your household)
– Travelling to and from work, if this cannot be done from home..

The announcement was made tonight at 8.30pm in a public address to the nation.

The strict social distancing measures have been put in place in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Police will have powers to disperse gathering of more than 2 people, unless they are family members from the same household. Police will also be able to issue fines.

Parks will remain open for exercise only.

Social events will be prohibited, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies. This does not include funerals.

There have been 335 deaths in the UK, up 54 from yesterday.

The lockdown will be reviewed in three weeks.
