Torbay Council is now part of the successful Crowdfunder.co.uk platform and are looking for local projects to fund.
Crowdfunding allows community groups and projects to easily set-up an online project where they can coordinate their fundraising in one place. Crowdfunding is also a great way to make projects visible to more people, trusts and corporate bodies that are looking to invest in community projects.
Torbay has joined forces with Crowdfund Devon and have a page on the main Crowdfunder site.
This way of fundraising lets the council support its residents by pledging funds for them to develop and deliver projects that will benefit those who live in the Bay, regardless of age and where they live.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Steve Darling, said: “Our local community and voluntary groups do amazing work improving people’s lives but we recognise that raising funds to get projects off the ground can be tricky. This is why as a Council we see being part of the Crowdfunding platform as a great way of putting our community at the heart of decision making, as well as a way for us to support new ideas and to help projects to get going.”
Deputy Leader of Torbay Council, Councillor Darren Cowell said “Our aspiration is to see this fund from the council grow over time so we can continue to pledge funds into community. You don’t need to be part of an existing group who has an idea on how to improve the lives of our residents to set up a Crowdfunder, you could just be an individual who would like to improve their neighbourhood. So if you have any ideas we would really encourage you to take a look at the Crowdfunding website.”
