Major roadworks have started on Goodrington Road in Paignton to reconstruct the carriageway.
Part of the road will be closed for the next 8 to 10 weeks between Davies Avenue and Gibson Drive.
Traffic is being diverted at each end of Goodrington Road down to Windy Corner and back as the main signed route.
The entrance of Gibson Road has currently been left open to assist traffic but this will also need to be closed off towards the end of the roadworks to allow work to be carried out there.
The work, which is costing around £200,000 is being carried out in partnership with Torbay’s resurfacing partner CORMAC Contracting Ltd.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “As part of our continuous commitment to structural maintenance across the Bay, these works are necessary and need to be carried out. We are aware these works will be disruptive, so we ask anyone who needs to use this area during this time to look at taking a different route. Local schools and businesses have been notified and we will work with our contractor to minimise the disruption as much as possible.”
