Late Night Sci-Fi Film Show at Torquay Museum

Storm Troopers at Torquay Museum

Fans of Classic science fiction films are in for a rare treat as Torquay Museum hosts a trio of back-to-back Sci-Fi classics in its 130 seat cinema from 6.45pm until late on Friday 17th March.

The films include the cult classic The Thing, directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell, set in a research facility in Antarctica where scientists stumble across the remains of an alien frozen in the ice for 100,000 years. The uncut version of the critically acclaimed Aliens, starring Sigourney Weaver and the late Bill Paxton, will also be screened, along with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. Indeed, there will be a Stormtrooper on site to welcome movie-goers into the Museum.

Tickets for Torquay Museum’s Late Night Sci-Fi Film Show on Saturday Friday 17th March are £12 each, to include all three films. Booking in advance is essential as spaces are limited, so call the Museum on 01803 293975 to reserve your space. The minimum age for movie-goers is 18.

The Museum’s doors open at 6pm, and the first film will begin showing from 6.45pm, with a half hour interval between films, when movie-goers will be able to purchase refreshments in the Museum’s café. Light hot snacks will be available from 6pm until the start of the first film. The film night will finish at approximately 2.30am Saturday morning.

From 17th June to 3rd September Torquay Museum will host an exhibition called May the Toys Be With You, which will showcase one of Britain’s finest collections of some of the first Star Wars toys, posters and memorabilia produced. Actual lightsabres used in the films and exact life-sized replicas of Darth Vader, R2D2, a Stormtrooper and much more will also be on show.
